Before trying any massage techniques at home, it’s important to have guidance from me. Once you’ve been cleared to do so, gentle at-home techniques can support your dog between sessions.
Effleurage
This is a smooth, gliding stroke using your palm. Move in the direction of the fur toward the heart using light pressure. Effleurage helps circulation, lymph flow, and general relaxation.
Raking
A deeper variation of effleurage, done with your fingers slightly spread. This can be helpful in areas that are compensating or overworking. Always begin lightly and build pressure slowly.
General Guidelines
Remember, at-home work is meant to support my massage treatment that was given, not replace it. If you’re ever unsure, I’m always happy to help you learn what’s safe and appropriate.
