Welcome to Bark Avenue Wellness Mobile Pet Services

What Is Canine Massage Therapy?

Canine Massage Therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach that supports dogs recovering from muscle-related injury and helps manage orthopaedic conditions such as arthritis. This non-invasive therapy is suitable for dogs of all ages, including senior companions and active or sporting dogs.

Many dogs show noticeable improvement within one to three sessions, often becoming more comfortable, relaxed, and mobile.

How Canine Massage Therapy Works:

As a Certified Canine Massage Therapist, I offer gentle, hands-on care to support your dog’s comfort, mobility, and quality of life. Every session is tailored to the individual dog — taking into account their body, temperament, lifestyle, and current needs.

My work may include:

  • Gentle connective tissue stretching to encourage ease of movement
  • Massage to support recovery from injury or to help active and sporting dogs
  • Deeper muscle work when appropriate and well tolerated
  • Relaxation-based massage to calm the nervous system and reduce stress

All techniques are applied thoughtfully, safely, and within a professional, ethical scope of practice — always with your dog’s wellbeing as the priority.

When appropriate, I also provide guidance on simple Swedish massage techniques that dog owners can safely use at home to help maintain comfort and relaxation between sessions.

Conditions That May Benefit from Canine Massage:

Canine massage therapy may help to:

  • Support orthopaedic conditions such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, luxating patella, spondylosis, and Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)
  • Reduce pain, swelling, and muscle tension
  • Aid recovery following surgery or injury
  • Improve mobility, flexibility, and range of motion
  • Resolve or improve lameness
  • Break down muscular knots and adhesions that restrict movement

  • Increase circulation and tissue health
  • Prevent muscle atrophy during periods of reduced activity
  • Reduce stress, anxiety, and muscle spasm
  • Support performance and recovery in agility, obedience, and flyball dogs) review
  • A clear discussion of treatment goals and realistic expectations
  • A 45–50 minute hands-on massage treatment
  • Visual or written feedback explaining findings and progress
  • A personalised home care plan with practical recommendations
  • An initial course of up to 3–4 sessions, though some dogs may require fewer

What to Expect from Treatment:

Most dogs tolerate massage therapy very well and enjoy the calming, therapeutic effects—often after just the first session. Each treatment is adapted to your dog’s comfort level, physical condition, and emotional response.

Depending on your dog’s individual needs and condition, multiple sessions may be recommended to achieve the best long-term results.

OVERALL BENEFITS

10 minutes of massage = 30 minutes of aerobic exercise for your pet

Even during an initial massage therapy session you can expect, for your pet:

  1. Pain Relief + Relaxation - A gentle touch helps replace pain and tension with comfort and relaxation.
  2. Improved Circulation - Enhanced blood flow increases oxygen levels and delivers essential nutrients while flushing out toxins.
  3. Hormonal Balance - Massage promotes the release of endorphins, creating a holistic and natural sense of well-being for dogs.

A gentle massage can also help build the trust and help you bond with your dog!
